WARNING: Bionicles
I haven’t written anything in a while.. been at a loss lately. However, something happened last night that both my husband and I feel strongly we need to get the word out about. Please, make this go viral! The message is urgent, and the spiritual conditions of our homes is at stake!
Somebody asked me about these and what the story behind them is. This is the story as told by my son:
Mata Nui came down from the “other world” and gave the six villages peace. Then his brother Mukuta came down and cast a spell on his brother and put him to sleep and took away the peace. Then there was a legend that six Toa would come down and find the six masks of power. There are six different
masks for all six of the Toa. Once they found all six masks, they can fight off the Mukuta and restore the peace.(From “Robin”) I have always been happy that my boys enjoy Legos, and never thought to even investigate any new item that they put out. Then one day I noticed them role playing with their beloved “bionicles” which I thought to be harmless robots, and heard them saying things that sounded just like they were playing with Pokemon (or close enough.) I immediately asked them (while my skin was crawling) where they were getting all those wild ideas from. “It’s right here in the book, Mom!” Come to find out, these Bionicles have quite a story to tell, all spelled out in the Lego magazine in a comic strip format, which my boys had been devouring for weeks.
I was upset to find that I was so careless, I not only let that junk into my home, but encouraged it without even checking it out.
The story speaks of “..The Great Spirit Mata Nui descended from the skies like a burning star.” “He walked the world and marveled at its beauty and watched over all living things.” But he was followed by “..his brother, The Dark Spirit Makuta. Makuta coveted this world and all that his brother had.” The “Dark Spirit” cast a spell that made “Mata Nui” fall asleep, now this world (sometimes referred to as an island) is in “Darkness” and in need of rescue. That is where the Bionicles come in, the have been sent by the “Great Beings” to save the world. And of course, these “mighty heroes” are to be equipped with “six Kanohi Masks of Power.” “Each mask grants the wearer new power and wisdom.”The “Great Mask” list:Miru – The great Mask of Levitation (to float and glide on air)Hau – The Great Mask of ShieldingKakama – The Great Mask of SpeedKaukau – The Great Mask of Water (to breath under water)Pakari – The Great Mask of StrengthAkaku – The Great Mask of X-Ray VisionSound familiar?More masks are being added to this story, and I have not had enough time to research any further. Just annoyed that I didn’t see it coming. My boys could make better use of their time. What really gets me is that these “Bionicles” do not even require much effort to assemble – Lego is promoting new age role playing along with “dumbing down” what used to be an educational toy! (Now they also have a Harry Potter line!)Warning to Parents: Do not rely on the past reputation of any toy company, check them out! Evil sneaks into our lives and children’s hearts disguised as harmless toys or books. We as parents need to be ever vigilant as you so aptly point out here.
My son really gets into these bionicles he is only 8 but Iam very concerned. Pray for me I dont really want them in our house. Keith
the story has changed alot now. these bionicles are sort of like biblical references. mata nui who is a reference to our loving god was cast out of his universe by makuta who seems to be like satan. anyway he finds himself on a new planet a desert world which could be a reference for jereusalem or other cities like that. anyway back to the story mata nui’s spirit is trapped in a mask and lands on this planet. he then becomes a bionicle like living instead of a spirit. sounds like a biblical reference to christ (not being sacreligous). now then there are skrall who sort of rule and are a powerful race. a reference to the romans maybe? but mata nui brings peace like jesus did and i bet you a hundred bucks when they come out with more story he will die or sacrifice himself. it sounds like they are teaching people about god. also earlier in the bionicle story a bionicle nammed matoro sacrificed himself to save the spirit of mata nui. maybe like jesus fufiling god’s plan by dying noble and peacefully?
the story line might have changed, but you can’t take something that was originally intended for evil or, in other words, unclean, and make it clean by changing the story line. the names of the gods are still false gods that are evil in nature and having them in your home allows for evil to be in your home.
but unless your kids are worshiping them and praying tothem they are not acting as false gods. its just the bionicles culture. for example if you traveled the world and went to asia and picked up a buhdist god statue to respect there culture and you put it in your home as decorative its not a false god in my opinion. if you put it above god then it is a false god. these are not evil just toys for kids with biblical references. once a gain lego is teaching kids about god in a way.
1 Thessalonians 5:22 “Abstain from all appearance of evil.”
This means even a suggestion of evil. Also, Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
I just don’t see these toys fitting either of these verses. For me that’s a big warning against something. Evil can be very subtle and when we start justifying it, we begin a slippery slope. There are enough other toys that we shouldn’t need to justify evil for our kids play things.
but lego is teaching christianity not making a new religion theres nothing evil about it
